Did You Know That July 5th Is The Busiest Day Of The Year At The Shelters?

Fireworks are pretty for us, but they are extremely scary for our pets.

Did you know when dogs are outside (especially when alone and afraid) they are very good at getting out of the yard through digging, chewing, climbing and jumping?

Some good precautionary measures in case the unthinkable happens - are to make sure your dogs have a comfortably snug collar (1 finger width between dog and collar is good) with current Rabies tag (your vets contact info is on it); and an ID tag with your contact info.

And for extra "insurance" - purchase and register a microchip for your pooches. The combination of these things, along with going outside with them when they have to "go" - will make a huge difference keeping your furkid from getting out, or help get your furkid back home, should the unthinkable happen during all the fireworks, or any time of year.

Please consider locking your gates. A simple bolt through a latch can do the trick or better yet get a small lock.

Best bet of all to keep your pet safe, keep them INSIDE for the afternoon/evening/overnight hours. Its not cruel, its actually the best way to keep them safe.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July!

Kim
